Liturgical Ministries
LITURGICAL MINISTRIES
The Liturgy Committee plans, implements, and evaluates parish prayer and worship. It develops meaningful liturgical and para-liturgical services (services other than mass) for all seasons of the church year. Membership may include representation from among the Lectors, Lay Eucharistic Ministers, Mass Coordinators, Music Ministry, and Arts and Environment.
Assist in the celebration of Sunday and Holy Day liturgies. Training sessions are provided. Children — ages nine (9) and older – and adults who wish to serve are encouraged to participate. Altar Servers are needed.
Responsible for seasonal decorations for the church. Decorates the church for all Holy Days of Obligation, as well as the Easter and Advent/Christmas seasons, and removes decorations afterwards. Artistic abilities and gifts or talents in decorating or flower arranging are needed.
During the 10:30 a.m. mass on Sunday, September through May, presents and explains mass readings in an age-relevant format to children 7 and under, in a separate space, returning after the homily. Must have VIRTUS training.
Assist in the distribution of the Eucharist at weekend and weekday liturgies. Ministers must be confirmed Catholics at least 16 years old and in good standing in the Roman Catholic Church. Training is provided.
Greet and welcome parishioners and visitors as they arrive for weekend liturgies, ushers assist with seating and collections.
Read scriptural passages to congregation as part of the Liturgy of the Word. Training is provided. Lectors are usually asked to read about once a month. Participants are mostly adult members of the Parish, but youth members in at least their junior year of high school are welcome to participate as well.
Ensure that the church is ready for the celebration of the Eucharist by preparing the vessels, candles, sacramentary, and lectionary. Ensures that sufficient numbers of Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers, and Altar Servers are available for mass.
Choir
Sing at one of the weekend liturgies each week and participate in special music programs during the Christmas and Easter seasons. Must attend rehearsals.
Musicians
Accompany Choir during liturgy on musical instruments e.g., organ, piano, drum, trumpet, violin, guitar, or flute. Must attend rehearsals. Must audition.
Launders altar cloths and purificators and has priest’s vestments dry cleaned. Oversees the order of the sacristy. Straightens up the sanctuary after weekend masses, funerals, etc.
